Biosketch
Dr Yajuvendra V Gawai has recently returned from the USA and is working at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital as Full Time Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon and Joint preservation specialist. His special interests are Knee, Shoulder and Hip arthroscopy and cartilage reconstruction surgery.
He has completed Fellowship in Sports Medicine from State University of New York (SUNY), at Buffalo (USA) which is the largest Sports medicine practice in Western New York. He had the privilege of taking care of professional American football team (NFL), The Buffalo Bills and Professional Ice Hockey (NHL) team 'The Buffalo Sabres' during his fellowship in 2011. Besides the professional teams he was also involved in care of SUNY (Division 1) and Buffalo State College (Division3) Athletes.
He also completed another Fellowship in and Sports Medicine and Cartilage Reconstruction at The Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York University (NYU) at New York, USA in 2012 which is one of the largest Orthopaedic residency program in the US. Here he was involved in care of The New York Rangers, professional ice hockey team (NHL) and NYU (Division 1) college athletes.
He also had the rare privilege of working at the Harkness Centre for Dance Medicine, New York, one of the very few centers for Dance medicine in The USA. He was also involved in the care of the professional dancers of The Alvin Ailey Dance Company which is a very popular Contemporary and Ballet Dance Company in New York.
He also trained in Shoulder and elbow surgery at RUSH University medical centre in Chicago which also features every year in the top five orthopaedic hospitals in the USA.
Besides performing more than 1300 arthroscopic surgeries he was also involved in number of clinical and lab research studies. He presented paper at the recently convened Annual meeting of American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) in Baltimore, MD, USA.
He has worked as Assistant professor in Orthopaedics at BYL Nair Hospital and TN Medical College for 3 years from 2007 to 2010. At that time he was one of the very few orthopaedic surgeons in Mumbai who did arthroscopic surgeries. He also worked for 2 years from 2005 to 2007 as Lecturer in Orthopaedics at Dr R N Cooper Hospital, Juhu, Mumbai which is a major trauma centre for the suburbs and is affiliated with KEM hospital for medical education. During this period he has educated and trained many orthopaedic residents and medical students.
