A British Urology Foundation scholarship gave me the opportunity to visit and work with Prof. Urs Studer at Berne University , Switzerland . To introduce these special techniques to UK surgeons I organised the “Radical Pelvic Surgery Masterclass” in 2003 and 2005 during which over 200 urologists have observed and learnt from watching world’s leading surgeons operate on patients.
I am the first UK surgeon to use the Nantes technique for radical prostatectomy and started operating using the special instruments in Nov 2004. The 2005 Masterclass introduced UK surgeons to this technique. I am also one the first few surgeons in UK to recognise the meritsof“Hand Assisted Laparoscopy”(HAL) for removal of kidneytumours and have practised and arranged courses for teaching this technique since 2003.
My special interests are in urology cancer especially prostate, bladder and kidney cancer and erectile dysfunction (impotence). I am the “Lead Clinician” for urology cancer at Bradford Teaching Hospital and “Chairman” of the urology section of Yorkshire Cancer Network.
